You can now put any of these calculators on your own site
· 3 min read
Every calculator on this site can now be shown on yours. It takes two lines of HTML, it is free, and there is no account to open. This is the code for the mortgage calculator:
<iframe src="https://plainnumber.com/embed/finance/mortgage" title="Mortgage payment calculator" width="100%" height="820" loading="lazy" style="border:0;max-width:100%"></iframe>
<p>Calculator by <a href="https://plainnumber.com/finance/mortgage" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Plain Number</a></p>The embed page has the same code for all 24 calculators, each with a button to copy it and a preview.
How do I add a calculator to my website?
- Copy the code for the calculator you want from the embed page.
- Paste it into your page as HTML. Most site builders have a block for this, usually called an HTML, code or embed block. On a hand-written page it goes wherever the calculator should appear.
- Set the height. The code asks for 820 pixels. Change that number to suit your page. If the calculator needs more room than you give it, it scrolls inside its own box.
Some hosted site plans do not allow frames from other sites at all. If the calculator does not appear after you paste the code, that is the first thing to check with your host.
What does it cost?
Nothing, on a personal or a commercial site. The one condition is the second line of the code: a credit under the calculator that links back here. Keep it visible.
What does it do on my site?
Less than most things you can paste into a page, and that is on purpose.
- No script runs on your page. The code is a frame and a link. A frame is a window onto a page of ours; it cannot read your page or anything your visitors do on it.
- No advertising appears in it. No ads, no sponsor and no affiliate link, and nothing we are paid elsewhere changes its arithmetic.
- Nothing your visitors type is collected. The sums run in their browser, exactly as they do here. There is no analytics tag and no cookie of ours in the frame.
- It stays current without you. The calculator is served from this site, so when a tax year changes or an exchange rate is refreshed, your page shows the new figures.
One thing does reach us. Our host logs the request for the frame, as every web server logs every page it serves, and that request normally includes the address of the page that showed it. The privacy page says exactly what that is, so you can describe it in your own notice.
Which calculators can I embed?
All 24 of them.
What it does not do
- It does not take your colours or fonts. It looks the way it looks here. A frame cannot be restyled from the page around it, and the limits printed under each answer have to stay readable.
- It does not resize itself. The height is the number in the code until you change it.
- It does not give advice. Every calculator is an estimate and says so under the answer. Do not present its result as financial, tax or legal advice, or as a quote from you.
- It is not guaranteed to stay. We may change a calculator, move it or stop offering embeds. We will not charge for one you have already placed.
The code, and the terms in full, are on the embed page.
