Terms of use
The deal, in plain terms
Plain Number is free, needs no account, and gives you estimates. It is a calculator, not an adviser, and the sections below say exactly where that line falls.

Who you are dealing with
Plain Number (the “site”) is operated by Media Yard LLC (“we”, “us”). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. You can reach us at hello@plainnumber.com.
The site gives estimates, not advice
Nothing on this site is financial, tax, legal, accounting, medical or professional advice of any kind. The calculators produce arithmetic based only on the figures you type in. They know nothing about your circumstances.
Every calculator states its own limits on the page, next to the answer, because a confidently wrong number is the only way a site like this really fails. A take-home pay figure covers federal income tax and FICA and does not include state or local tax. A business-day count excludes weekends but does not know your public holidays. A mortgage payment is not the figure your lender will quote you. Currency figures are mid-market reference rates from a dated snapshot, not the rate a bank or card will actually give you.
Before you act on any number here — signing a loan, accepting an offer, filing a return — check it with the institution or professional who is actually responsible for it.
No warranty
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We work hard to be correct — the arithmetic is covered by automated tests and published figures are checked against the authority that issued them — but we do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any figure is accurate or current.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunity, arising out of or relating to your use of the site — whether the claim is framed in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability or otherwise, and even if we have been advised that such damages are possible.
Because the site is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims relating to the site will not exceed one hundred United States dollars (USD $100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, the exclusions and limitations above apply to you only to the extent permitted, and nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
How you may use the site
You are welcome to use the site for personal or commercial purposes. You agree not to:
- use it in a way that interferes with its operation or with anyone else’s use of it;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site or its hosting infrastructure;
- scrape or reproduce the site’s content wholesale in order to republish it as your own; or
- use it for anything unlawful.
Intellectual property
The site’s design, written content, name and logo are owned by Media Yard LLC. The underlying mathematics is not — nobody owns compound interest, and the figures published by tax authorities and central banks belong to those bodies and are used here with attribution and a link to the source.
The answers a calculator produces from figures you enter are yours. Use them however you like.
Third-party sources and links
Published figures are sourced from bodies including the Internal Revenue Service, the Social Security Administration and the European Central Bank. We link to those sources so you can verify them. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any of them, and we are not responsible for the content of any external site we link to.
Availability and changes
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the site at any time without notice, including any individual calculator. We may also update these terms; if we do, the date at the top of this page will change, and continuing to use the site after that means you accept the revised terms.
Privacy
We collect nothing. The Privacy notice explains what that means in detail and how it is enforced technically rather than merely promised. The AI disclosure explains what role AI played in building the site.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and you and we submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located there.
Severability
If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary and the rest will remain in full force.
